Jim Foster quoted in Atlanta Business Chronicle’s Financial Quarterly

In an article in the Atlanta Business Chronicle’s Financial Quarterly published on Nov. 27, 2015, Jim Foster provided insights on how the volatility in the stock market can create lucrative opportunities for investors if they are counseled properly. Although most years see a double digit sell off in the S&P 500 from peak to bottom intra-year, most of those stocks still increase in value on a yearly basis. “So it is not uncommon to have 10 percent sell off within a year, but even with that most years most stock turn positive,” said Foster. The best way investment advisors can help clients through these periods of volatility is to counsel them so that they don’t make the mistake of selling low only to buy back into the market at a much higher rate.

Foster also noted the emergence of hedge funds as an alternative strategy in investment portfolios. “We recognize that there are benefits to gain from layering in nontraditional asset classes or investment structures within traditional portfolios,” he said. “So where we can get assets that tend to zig a bit when the market zags, we think that adds to the overall profile of the client portfolio, especially in these choppier markets.” For the full article, please click here.
